Rug Cleaning New York - Organic Rug Cleaning NYC
This time of year is always extremely busy for us rug cleaners. We are working very hard to clean everyone's rugs, carpets, and upholstery so that it can be nice and fresh for the holiday guests and family get together's
While we always deliver a clean and fresh rug to our customers home, nothing can stop that rug from getting dirty again during the holidays.
We receive calls all the time right after major holidays regarding spilled wine, food etc...
So we decided to write a post on some holiday tips when it comes to rugs.
Firstly try not to spill anything! Of course this is easier said than done and accidents do happen. In the event that one of your guests do spill some drink or food on your rugs there are some things you can do to help prevent that stain from becoming embedded in the fibers of your rug.
After scolding your guest, grab a white towel and blot out any excess liquid or food from the rug. Do not rub, as this may cause pile damage and also may set the stain in the fibers. We highly recommend staying as far away from over the counter cleaning products as possible. Especially if you are dealing with a quality rug.
Often times these household cleaning products contain very high pH levels that can cause severe damage to wool and silk fibers and even cause the dyes to bleed.
If you must use something, we recommend using distilled white vinegar. Mix it up with a ratio of 50/50 with luke warm water and use a white towel to dab and blot the spot on the rug. Again, DO NOT RUB. Please be careful if attempting to treat an expensive rug yourself. Some rugs are extremely delicate and will not respond well to cleaning attempts.
The acidic content in the vinegar will provide a safe and natural cleaning boost for your rug and may help remove the stain completely.
After the holidays are over, your rug may need a trip to the spa. If the stain did not come out completely you should call a professional rug cleaning new york company to provide their expertise.
We can pick the rug up from your home and clean it in our state of the art rug cleaning facility. This will remove all the dirt, grime, allergens and soil from the heavy traffic of the holidays. Once the rug is ready it can be delivered back to your home and installed back in place looking good as new!
Our turn around time is typically 7-10 business days and as always we guarantee your satisfaction with all of our work!
Enjoy the holidays and have a happy new year! We are here in case of rug emergencies! :)

Green Rug Cleaning New York - Why choose Organic Rug Cleaning NYC
Cleaning
Your Exotic, Persian, or Oriental Area Rug
Cleaning your area rugs with
at-home solutions could damage your expensive rugs. Area rug cleaning requires a softer touch and
many people that attempt to do it themselves scrub too hard with rough brushes
or use harsh chemicals that damage the rugs fragile fibers. A professional cleaning company can give you a
free in-home inspection to let you know exactly what needs done. They are trained and very experienced in
determining exactly how your particular rug should be cleaned. Many rugs cannot be wet cleaned, so therefore
need to go through a dry cleaning process. These professional cleaning companies know exactly
which process to use when cleaning your rugs, while any do-it-yourselfer could
choose the wrong process and destroy their precious area rug. Plus, the professionals offer full service
pick-up and delivery.
The cleaning process
begins with the professionals using specialized equipment that send vibrations
through your rug to loosen up any dirt particles so that they can be removed
because a standard vacuum cleaner is unable to get all of the dirt out of your
rug. Your rug is then inspected to determine
if it can be wet cleaned or if it needs to be dry cleaned. If the rug can be wet cleaned it is cleaned
with an organic cleaning solution. Organic cleaning solutions are the best
cleaners to use on any rug because they are not filled with harsh chemicals
that can damage the delicate fibers in your rugs. They are also non-toxic which is perfect if
you have little children or pets running around and you can be certain that the
cleaner will not harm your precious rug.
After you rug has been
put through the cleaning process, it is then placed in a deodorizing bath. This will take any smell out of your rugs and
leave a fresh clean scent. After being
cleaned by a knowledgeable professional, your area rugs will look and smell
like new. With proper upkeep of your
exotic, Persian, or Oriental rug you can maintain its original beauty for years
to come.
Pure Green RugCleaning NYC treats your valuable rug as if it was their own. Using state-of-the-art cleaning methods and
solutions, Pure Green offers free pick-up and delivery for all customers in
need of area rug cleaning in NYC, Brooklyn, Staten Island, Queens, Long Island,
and the surrounding areas. When you need
a professional to care for your precious rug, Pure Green is here for you.

Silk Rug Cleaning NYC - Removing Urine Odors and Stains from Silk Rug
Cleaning silk rugs is a skill that requires a certain level of expertise. Silk rugs can be very expensive and an improper cleaning can cause the colors to bleed or create areas of discoloration. As a general rule, you should never attempt to clean a silk rug on your own unless you have the proper resources and experience in doing it the right way.
We receive calls all the time from people who attempted to "spot clean" their silk rug only to find out that they removed color from the rug, destroyed its sheen, or caused pile damage.
Sometimes the damage is to far gone to be repaired, which is why it is best to contact a professional before attempting to tackle any spots on your silk rug by yourself.
At PureGreen Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning we are able to properly handle your silk rugs when it comes time for cleaning. The first step would be setting up an inspection. During the inspection one of our silk rug cleaning nyc technicians will examine your rug and provide you with some options as far as the best way to clean them is concerned.
During the inspection you will also be made aware of what to expect from a cleaning. If the rug is in very poor condition and cannot be restored, the technician will let you know what results are possible to achieve with a cleaning. If your area rug needs repairs, our technician can provide some repair options on the rug as well.
After the inspection we will take the rug back to our facility for a cleaning. First we will dust the rug, removing as much dry soil as possible before washing it. The is a crucial step in the cleaning process because if the rug is very dusty, adding water to a dusty rug will result in discoloration. Think about what happens when you wet dirt, it turns into mud.
After the dusting process, we then check the rug for color fastness. For rugs with renegade dyes, we use our in house dye stabilizers to ensure that the colors will not bleed during the cleaning process. Once the dyes are stabilized we will pre-treat any spots that might need special treatment before its time for a bath.
The rugs get washed individually in our wash pit. This process gets done by hand to ensure the proper care and attention to detail necessary for impeccable results is always achieved.
For rugs with severe odor issues, we leave the rug fully submerged in the wash pit over night in order to remove 100% of the odor.
After the wash, we will rinse out any cleaning solutions with pure water and a pH neutralizing solution. We then groom the rug, placing the pile in the right direction and begin the drying process. Typically, our turn around time is approximately 7 business days.
So remember, cleaning silk rugs is not something that should ever be done in your home. If you require the services of a Silk Rug Cleaning Professional please feel free to contact us with any questions!
Below is a picture of a rug we are working on right now. This rug was given to us by one of our long time customers. She is already educated on how to treat these rugs. She called us right away when the stain happened and knew not to try to clean it up herself with anything. We will able to fully remove this stain and restore the rug to its natural beautiful condition.

Microfiber Sofa Cleaning NYC - Organic Upholstery Cleaning
Microfiber is a very common fabric found in many homes. We get calls all the time to clean up microfiber sofas. As a fabric, microfiber is typically very resilient and should last long if taken care of properly. For routine maintenance you can spot clean some (not all) stains using general household products like distilled white vinegar mixed with water.
A deep cleaning of the upholstery is still recommended at least once every year or two depending on the traffic. What happens when microfiber is not maintained is that body oil becomes built up in the fabric. Oil stains on MF sofas can become a real eyesore because they turn the fabric a dark black color. In order to remove this, professional cleaning methods must be employed.
At PureGreen we have perfected the way we clean microfiber and ultra-suede material. Sometimes our customers cannot even believe the results we are able to achieve. We have found that by boosting the cleaning process using all natural citrus based products all the oil based stains liquefy and are able to be extracted easily.
Our prespray detergents will cut through dirt and grime like a hot knife through butter. As always our technicians only use organic upholstery cleaning solutions during the cleaning process. We also make sure to rinse everything out with pure water so that no sticky residue is left behind. This will also ensure that the fabric stays clean longer.
With microfiber an often skipped step is the grooming process. Our technicians will post groom the fabric using white cotton terry towels. This will do three things:
1. Help dry the fabric
2. Return the nap to its normal position
3. Lift up any possible remaining dirt
The end result is a clean, fresh smelling, and soft sofa that you can enjoy as if it were brand new. As an optional treatment we also offer a post application fabric protector. Our green labeled fabric protector is completely safe to use around kids, pets and the environment. What the protector does is actually bonds to the fabric itself and acts as a repellent to liquids, oils, and dust. This will make sure that if someone accidentally spills something on the fabric you will be able to simple wipe it off with a paper towel. It also ensures that the sofa will last a lot longer since dust and dirt will not become embedded in the fabric.
Please take a look below at one of our recent jobs. This particular customer had a white microfiber sectional that had several dark black stains all over. These stains were basically body oil buildup from years of use. The customer had low expectations on the results of the cleaning but we were really able to wow her with our work.
Our Green Sofa Cleaning NYC technicians were able to remove 100% of the stains from this sofa, using our citrus boosted cleaning method.

ORGANIC UPHOLSTERY CLEANING NYC
Cleaning upholstered furniture can sometimes be tricky. An inexperienced technician can make a very costly mistake cleaning something the wrong way.
We get calls all the time from people who tried to clean their upholstery themselves or had it cleaned by an untrained technician, looking for a way to reverse the damage done.
At PureGreen Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning we are fully equipped to handle even the most delicate of fabrics. Different fabrics on your sofa can call for different cleaning methods. Technicians that use the same cleaning method for every piece of upholstery they encounter will often times lead to a number of issues.
Our upholstery cleaning NYC technicians are fully capable of cleaning microfiber sofas, cotton, linen, wool and silk fabrics. We always test the fabric first in order to make sure that our particular method of cleaning will be safe. If we find that it is not, we can switch to a more suitable cleaning technique.
Some fabrics, cotton in particular, can become discolored if they are over wet or if a harsh product is being used. When we clean cotton upholstery we make sure to neutralize the pH level of the fabric in order to avoid browning. Browning occurs when the fabric is left at a high pH and can sometimes be irreversible.
If odor is an issue with your sofa, we can inject into the fabric an odor neutralizing agent that works on a molecular level in order to get rid of odors such as urine, smoke, mildew, pet dander etc...
As always all of the solutions that we use during our cleaning process are certified green labeled cleaning products. If you are looking for organic upholstery cleaning in nyc then we would love to help you with your sofa cleaning needs.
Take a look at a recent job we did for one of our customers. This upholstery was all very old and delicate. They had just been taken out of storage where they were sitting for twenty years collecting dust. There were multiple stains all over the chairs and a lot of body oil buildup from everyday use. We were able to get them looking much better and our customer was very happy because these had sentimental value for her.

Kilim Rug Cleaning and Repair in NYC
At PureGreen, we have the knowledge and expertise in cleaning and repairing all types of rugs. Each and every rug needs to be fully identified and inspected prior to cleaning.
Because of differences in materials, construction and design, using the same cleaning techniques for all rugs will eventually lead to a costly mistake.
Below we have a picture of a Kilim rug we recently cleaned for our customer. This rug for example is not the easiest rug to clean.
Firstly, the dyes are not stable at all. These rugs bleed and the bleed ALOT! If the dyes are not stabilized during the cleaning process, this rug can end up looking rather unsightly after it dries.
The second issue with this rug is that it cannot be dried hanging up like many other rugs. This rug must be speed dried on the floor and stretched out the entire time. This process is called blocking. A necessary task, because if it is not blocked, the rug will get wavy and never lay down flat.
For this rug we provided a deep cleaning and blocking. We also provided the customer with a new pad to help protect her rug from future wear and tear.
If you have a rug that is in need of a deep cleaning, feel free to contact us today and one of our Rug Cleaning NYC technicians would be happy to provide you with a free inspection on the work.

Organic Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning in NYC
Are
you and your family members living in an “optimal health living environment”?
There
are 5 necessary components for optimal health and wellness.
These being: Healthy
Eating, Healthy Sleeping, Healthy Movement, Healthy Environment and Healthy
Thinking. Each of the pillars of optimal health carry their own weight and often some are
neglected. It takes a balance of all 5 pillars in order to be living at your
optimal health.
The
truth is, that in New York City most people are not living in an optimal
environment. Studies have shown that carpets, area rugs, and upholstery in New
York City carry up to 37% more air born pollutants which are embedded in the
fibers as compared to most other places. These pollutants include, dust,
allergens, bacteria, pet dander, toxins, dirt, and dead skin cells.
No
matter how many times you vacuum, scrub, or dust your carpets and upholstery,
if you do not provide them with a deep clean every 6-12 months, those deeply
embedded soils will never be removed.
The
problem is, most people are skeptical when it comes to hiring a company to
clean their fabrics. There has been a lot of press lately on the dangers of
using harsh and toxic chemicals to clean with. It’s true, it is sometimes
easier to clean with harsh chemicals, however, by using these toxic products
you are simply replacing one harmful substance with another.
That’s
where we come in. My name is Sonny Cohen and I am the co-owner of PureGreen
Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning. We offer a truly organic cleaning approach
that will safely, deep clean your fabrics and leave them in a clean, and most
importantly healthy state for you and your family.
Our
cleaning products have all been green seal certified and are the safest available
on the market. No need to be concerned about any sticky residue being left
behind, off gassing from cleaning agents, damaged fabrics from use of harsh
chemicals, or any potential health hazards.
Below
is a job we recently did for a customer. Here we worked on her wool carpet and
her white micro-fiber sectional. Our organic carpet cleaning nyc technicians
were able to make everything look as good as it was the day she first got them.
Feel
free to give us a call today to book your next cleaning session!

Sofa Cleaning NYC - College Dorm Room Futons
We recently did some work for a University in Manhattan. The job required us to clean several sofa bed's and futons used by college students in their dorm rooms.
As you can imagine, most of these upholstery pieces were very heavily soiled with all types of stains from food spills, drink spills, pet stains etc...
We setup all the pieces in one room and started cleaning, assembly line form. Pieces were first Pre-Treated, then agitated, then rinsed and extracted and then setup to speed dry with fans.
We were able to leave everything bone dry and ready for use by the time we left the building. As always, only non-toxic, organic cleaning products were used during the cleaning process. These sofa beds were no match for our upholstery cleaning nyc technicians.
The manager of the building was very impressed with the results and surprised to see how much dirt and soil we were able to remove from the sofa's.
Have a commercial cleaning job that you would like a free inspection on? Give us a call today and have one of our reps schedule a visit to discuss the best possible cleaning options for you.

Water Damage - Wet Shag Rug in New York City
Shag Rugs are coming back in style with a vengeance. In many New York City apartments today, you can find a nice shaggy rug on top of the wood floors. The right rug can give a room a modern, stylish, and sophisticated look, however this does not come easy.
Shag rugs must be maintained in order to keep them looking clean. Because the pile is so thick on a shag rug, it makes the perfect home for dust mites, allergens, pet dander and fur. Daily vacuuming is recommended along with a deep professional cleaning every 8-12 months. Your shag rug is the biggest dust magnet in your home. As much as it is being vacuumed, without sending the rug out to a professional rug cleaning service, deeply embedded soil will never be flushed out.
Another common problem with shag rugs, is over wetting. Because these rugs are so absorbent, drying can be a problem if not done correctly. One of our customers recently called in because she attempted to clean her shag rug with a carpet cleaning rental machine. The problem with that, is those machines shoot out a lot of water and do not have the proper vacuum suction to suck it back up. It often ends with a severely wet rug and no place to dry it.
After attempting to clean the shag rug, our customer hoped she can get it dry in her storage room, however after three days, the rug did not appear to be getting dry, and now had a mold and dry rot issue. The binding of the rug was beginning to peal off when she called us.
Our Rug Cleaning NYC technician was able to provide the customer with some tips for future reference and gave her some recommendations and how to treat the now water damage shag rug.

Upholstery Cleaning NYC - Urine Stains
Urine Stains can become a big problem and embarassment when
you are hosting guests. In New York City we know how cramped it can get in your
apartment and sometimes your beloved dog or cat just needs to try and claim
some territory for themselves
.
Often times, this claim for space will result in a urine
stain on your brand new (or old) sofa. When your pets have accidents on your
upholstery we do not recommend attempting to clean them with any of the over
the counter products available in the market.
Often times these do not do a good job and can actually set
the stains or even cause permanent discoloration to your fabric. It is best to
try and blot the stain out with a white rag and then if you want to try and
help with the odor use some distilled white vinegar mixed with water (about
50/50) and blot at the stain.
Of course, in order to remove the stain and odor completely
the help of a professional upholstery cleaning service will be required.
At PureGreen, our upholstery cleaning NYC technicians can
usually make quick work of urine stains and odors using our all natural
cleaning agents.
Below is a before and after picture we took at one of our
clients homes. This couch was cotton and had urine stains on it. The customer
also treated the stains with one of the over the counter products she had and
it made the stains bigger and left huge water rings all around.
It was not easy, but our technicians were able to remove
virtually 100% of the stain and neutralize the urine odors from the sofa.
If you have upholstery or carpets that are in need of
cleaning due to a pet accident, please feel free to give us a call anytime. We’d
be happy to help!

Beer Stain - Upholstery Cleaning NYC
Beer is often a very difficult stain to remove on certain fabrics
because of its high yeast content. In certain situations yellowing or browning
can occur if the fabric is cotton.
The best way to avoid beer stain issues on your upholstery is to get
the beer in your mouth and not your couch J
But in all seriousness, we know how cramped some NYC apartments can be,
and if you are hosting friends for a get together the inevitable will surely
happen sooner or later. If you or one of your friends happens to fumble their
alcoholic beverage during your shin dig, the first thing you should do is eject
said drink dropper from the party and then grab a white rag or towel and try
and blot/soak up as much of the beverage as possible.
It is best to attempt to remove the stain yourself as using the wrong
products or improper cleaning techniques can potentially make the stain look
worse or even permanently set it into the fabric.
Once all the dust has settled and the party is over, you are encouraged
to call a professional sofa cleaning service to help you with the stain.
At PureGreen, our upholstery cleaning nyc technicians are fully
equipped and knowledgeable in handling beer…stains that is..
More often than not we can remove the stain and odor from the fabric 100%.
If we feel that the stain is too severe to guarantee results, we will let you
know before we begin what you should expect from a cleaning.
Below is an example of a customer we had recently who sublet her
apartment in NYC to someone who obviously did not get back their security
deposit at the end of their stay. This stain was particularly difficult because
it was on a white cotton fabric which does not respond well to heavy moisture.
The stain was sitting on the fabric for about a month but the good thing was
that the customer did not attempt to remove the stain themselves.
Our upholstery cleaning specialist was able to completely remove the
stain and save our customer a pretty penny from having to get the sofa
re-upholstered which would have been the last resort. As always we only use the best green labeled products available to our industry which means no harmful chemicals and no sticky residue left behind.
Take a look at the photos below and give us a call if you need help
with any type of stain removal on your upholstery or carpets!

Carpet Cleaning in New York - Urine Stain Removal
Urine Stains can be a tough stain to overcome if not treated
the proper way. When your beloved pet has an accident on your carpet, it is
generally best to stay away from any over the counter type products since often
times, these can permanently set the stain.
We know how agitating the smell of urine can be in your living room and the eye sore of having a large yellow stain in the center of your carpet and we are here to help.
It is best to call a professional carpet cleaning company to
deal with your pet stains while you relax and worry about the other million
things going on at the same time J
Depending on the severity of the urine contamination we can
offer multiple different cleaning options to tackle the issues. When odor is a
major issue we use can use enzymes or even live bacteria (completely non-toxic)
to completely eliminate and break down any odors, not just hide them.
If the urine has soaked all the way into the padding of the
carpet, we may need to flood the problem area with our urine neutralizing
cleaning agents and extract the area using high powered vacuum systems. This will ensure that your pets wont be
attracted to the odors beneath the carpet and will not be tempted to keep
marking the same areas.
After the odor has been dealt with and there is still some
visible signs of the stain, we like to use oxygenated products to help remove
the stain completely. Our Carpet Cleaning NYC technicians have been fully
trained and certified in the proper techniques in removing urine stains and
odors from carpets, area rugs, and upholstery.
In certain situations, urine
stains may be permanent and our technicians would let you know beforehand what
you should expect. Below is a job that we recently did for a customer. The
carpet was riddled with several pet stains all over the room. We were able to
remove all of them and the end result was a clean and odor free carpet.

Common Mistakes to Avoid When Cleaning Oriental Rugs
Cleaning Oriental and Persian Rugs can be tricky and hazardous to an untrained cleaner. Because all handwoven rugs are unique and no two rugs are alike, using the same cleaning method for every rug will eventually lead to a rug cleaning disaster.
The first rule of thumb when cleaning a handwoven rug is to understand that this is not a "Do It Yourself" project. Attempting to clean an expensive rug yourself without the proper equipment and knowledge can end up becoming a very costly mistake. It is best to hire the help of a rug cleaning professional in order to properly clean your rugs.
Always make sure that the rug cleaner you choose is trained and experienced in handling exotic rugs before you allow them to clean yours. Ask if they are fully insured against any accidents that may occur during the cleaning process.
Handwoven rugs can be constructed in many different ways. The most common rugs that you see inside of homes are constructed of wool fibers, which is a strong and durable fiber. The wool can be dyed in many different way as well and sometimes the dyes can be unstable and bleed during the cleaning process if the wrong solutions are used.
Silk rugs are another fiber that can commonly be seen in handwoven rugs. Silk Persian Rugs can be very very pricey and although silk is a very strong fiber, cleaning silk the wrong way can permanently damage the sheen of the fabric.
Our Oriental Rug Cleaning NYC technicians are fully trained and capable of cleaning all types of rugs, from Silk Rugs, Wool Rugs, Shag Rugs, Tufted Rugs, Hemp Rugs and so on...
We make sure to educate our customers on the cleaning methods we will use for your particular rug. If color runs will be an issue we will make sure to stabilize the dyes before we begin the cleaning process to ensure that no bleeding will occur.
Our method of cleaning typically involves fully submerging the rug in a wash pit. This will soak both sides of the rug and ensure a complete and thorough cleaning. After all the the soil, allergens, dust and sand is flushed away in the wash pit, we will scrub the rugs gently, making sure as not to damage the pile of your rug.
If there are any odor issues, we can include enzymes into the cleaning process to help neutralize and eliminate (not cover up) and bad odors.
When the rug is thoroughly washed, we rinse it out with a pH neutralizing bath which will remove any remaining dirt, soaps, and dust that may have been left behind. This important step will ensure that when the rugs dry, they will be left in a soft and clean state, the way it was when it was first made.
After this, we hang the rugs up for drying and before we bring the rug back to our customers we always give it a final inspection. If any stains remain we can provide additional stain removal treatment. The end result is a clean, fresh rug that has been thoroughly washed by trained professionals.

Navajo Rug - Moth Damage - Cleaning and Repair
Moths are the number one enemy of wool rugs. In the right conditions a moth can lay up to 150 eggs and when these eggs hatch, the larvae will feed on the wool. It is always recommended to have your wool rugs professionally cleaned every year in order to protect against the possibility of a moth attack.
Moths are highly attracted to the keratin in dog and cat hairs so if you have pets, the chances of attracting moth to your rugs are increased. A dirty rug full of dog and cat fur is paradise for moths.
It is always important to check all the rugs in your home if you have a moth problem with one rug. Moth larvae can migrate from one rug to another. They usually hide in dark spaces which have the least amount of traffic on the rugs.
Recently one of our customers called us because she discovered that her authentic Navajo rug was severely damaged by moths. This rug was very old and rare so the customer was fairly devastated at the damage.
Upon inspection we recommended having the rug cleaned and lime washed to kill any larvae and eggs that might still be in the rug. We then began the repairs which entailed stitching many loose threads, rebinding the fringes and re-attaching a piece of the rug that was completely torn off.
She was lucky she caught the problem when she did because 1-2 weeks longer and the rug would have been damaged beyond repair. Our Rug Cleaning NYC technicians were able to pick up the area rug from the customers house, clean, repair, restore and deliver the fixed rug back to the customers house.
Below are the before and after pictures of the rug.

Ink Stain on MicroFiber Sofa
MicroFiber is a very resilient fabric that does clean up well in most cases, which is what makes it popular for families with small children who may not be so careful with your upholstery as some other people.
All of our upholstery cleaning nyc technicians are fully trained to tackle the most difficult stains on a microfiber sofa. Our organic sofa cleaning methods use only the safest products on the market which do a great job cleaning without compromising your health.
Oil based stains are very tricky to remove completely on Microfiber and in order to remove these we like to add some citrus into our cleaning process which does a great job breaking down oil based stains and also provides a light and pleasant fragrance which our customers love.
After cleaning and rinsing out the fabric, what we like to do is post groom the sofa with a dry cotton terry cloth. This will help speed up the drying process and also remove any cleaning marks left behind during the process.
Often times we are able to "wow" our customers after cleaning a MicroFiber sofa. Below is an example of a job we did recently where the customers toddler mistook the sofa cushion for a blank canvas and went to work with a blue pen.
Using a citrus based solvent we were able to completely remove the ink stain and the cushions looked good as new. This particular customer was very happy and in turn asked us to also clean her area rugs, which we gladly obliged to.

Persian Rug - Dry Rotted - Big Plants / Big Trouble
Plants and Rugs do not play well together. We see it all the time. Customer with a beautiful handwoven Persian or Oriental Rug that has a huge hole right through the rug.
Leaving potted plants on top of a rug can be a very expensive mistake, depending on the rug. Over time, water seeps through the pot and creates moisture in the rug. Often times this is a very slow process, however once the damage is finally spotted, it is far too late for the rug.
The moisture from the plant will create tiny mold spores which slowly eat away and deteriorate the rugs foundation. Sometimes the area affected will turn brown and stiff to the touch. Most times, the fibers are so weak they will just break apart and shred to pieces.
There is no way to "fix" a dry rot problem. Once the rugs fibers have deteriorated your best hope would be a repair job to fix the patch that has been dry rotted, but in many cases the damage is beyond repair and/or too costly in reference to the rug in question.
Below are some pictures of a recent rug we received a call for. This customer called us in for area rug cleaning nyc and upon inspection we were able to discover a 9 inch hole straight through the rug which was a result of dry rot from watering a plant on top of the rug.
The customer was shocked to find the hole there and we explained to her how it happened. In this case, the rug is a very old and valuable piece that the customer would like to save. We took the rug back to our facility for repair, which will entail re-weaving the rug using a variety of weaving and knotting techniques, recreating the missing warp and wefts on a loom and matching the original design as best as possible.
Once the rug repair has been completed we will then make sure all repairs are secure and wash the entire rug. The end result should show little to no signs of the dry rot ever occurring.

Persian Wool Area Rug - Attacked By Moth
We get a lot of calls from customers who have been the unlucky victims of a moth attack on their precious area rugs.
Sometimes the damage can be devastating and depending on how much time the moth had to feed on the rug, sometimes the damages cannot be repaired.
At PureGreen we offer several different options to treating a moth damaged rug. Typically we will first inspect the rug for damages. A lot of time the fibers will be very loose and to the untrained eye the rug may seem okay, but shake it up a little and all you may find chunks of wool falling off the rug.
Wool is the main food source for moth larvae, these tiny worm like insects will feast on a Persian rug and love every second of it. Our NYC Rug Cleaning technicians can help identify any potential moth problems and provide you with the best solution to the problem.
To treat the rug for moth damage, we will give the rug a lime wash. This highly acidic wash is safe for the rug and will ensure that no moth larvae will remain inside of the rug. After the lime wash we inspect to make sure no larvae remain before we apply a moth proofing treatment onto the rug. This non-toxic repellent will ensure that no more moth will be attracted to this rug.
Lastly, we offer area rug repairs for any damages resulted from the moth. We can patch holes, recolor dyes and re-stitch the binding to make it look like your rug was never attacked.
See picture below for a recent customer of ours who had their beautiful Persian Rug attacked by moth. Luckily they caught on to it fairly quickly before it became really bad. They have a hole about the size of an apple on the rug which we will be able to repair for them.

Tibetan Rug - Dog Urine
Here is a nice Tibetan Rug we received from one of our customers. This rug is an 8x10 and 100% wool. Unfortunately the customers dog has been using the rug as a bathroom, marking it in the same spot over and over.
The urine has been sitting in the rug for quite some time and as a result has distorted and burned the wool. We took the rug back to our shop for a deep cleaning and soaking to flush out all the urine and neutralize the odors.
Our NYC Area Rug Cleaning soaking process allows for a full penetration of enzymatic solutions into both sides of the rug in order for a complete and thorough cleaning.
Severe urine stains such as this one can be tricky to handle. Using the wrong products can permanently set the stain and sometimes removing the stain can lead to bleaching, or color runs. Sometimes complete removal of the stain is not possible and color restoration will be needed to fully restore the rug.
In the above example, this rug was deep cleaned and soaked using enzymes. The end result is a clean rug, however some discoloration is still visible. The next step is to treat the discoloration and restore the color back to its original condition.
Have a rug problem that you need help with? Give us a call today and we would be happy to help!
